BUFFALO, N.Y. - It's a season of celebration and decoration, but it is also a season that can be pushed aside in the midst of a professional hockey season.
Sabres Captain Steve Ott says "with the exception of the lock-out last year, I think this will be the first time coming home for Christmas in 10 years."
Words echoed by Forward Matt Ellis "Obviously when you sign up for this and this is your job, there's certain things that go along with it, certain sacrifices like birthdays and special occasions, it's all part of the process."
But this season is different. NHLers now have a three day Christmas break thanks to the NHL's new collective bargaining agreement.
"To be able to be home for Christmas" Says Ellis, "to see the kids on Christmas morning and kind of feel like that Christmas magic through my kids, it's huge and I'm very lucky to be able to do that this year."
