ALBANY, N.Y.- Senate majority leader Dean Skelos may have had a change of heart when it comes to medical marijuana.
Skelos is considering joining over half a dozen Republican lawmakers who have recently announced their support for the drug for medical purposes.
The majority leader previously opposed medical marijuana, but said Wednesday he's open to legalizing marijuana-based oils and possibly vaporizers.
Skelos said his Republican coalition is considering legislation to that would go beyond Governor Andrew Cuomo's proposal to dispense medical marijuana at 20 hospitals. According to Skelos, the Republican party as a whole has shifted its attitude toward medical marijuana.
Skelos didn't rule out passing a bill in support of medical marijuana, but also didn't commit to bringing it to a vote, saying the Republicans plan to discuss the issue further before making a decision.
