BUFFALO, NY - Candace Cartagena will spend the next 25 years to life in prison for the death of her eight-year old daughter Bianca.
Last month, she was found guilty in a non-jury trial, of second degree murder.
Cartagena was sentenced by Erie County Court Judge Thomas Franczyk. In his written decision, he indicated that the 35-year old mom "intentionally suffocated" Bianca. The child was found dead in her mother's bed in November 2010.

Cartagena admitted to taking pills to kill herself because of her personal problems. She told 2 On Your Side's Claudine Ewing in an interview at the Erie County Holding Center, "I didn't murder Bianca. I was the only person who was supposed to die. I felt Bianca would be better off without me."

Cartagena says she wanted to testify at her trial, but on the advice of her lawyer, she did not.
Members of her family did take the witness stand, including her mother and sister. "It kills me that they could think that I did that (killed Bianca on purpose)," she said.
