BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Police are investigating a hit and run accident that injured a 2-year-old girl.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday on Floss Avenue near Genesee Street.
The toddler, identified by Buffalo Police as Alicea Xayeliz, was taken to Women and Children's Hospital where she is listed in critical condition
Earlier Monday, a family friend had identified her by a different name.
A police spokesman says they the vehicle in question appears to be a white, 4-door Impala with tinted windows.
The driver is described as a black male, possibly 25-35 years old.
2 On Your Side spoke to one man, who didn't want to be identified, however, knows the family of the victim and says he saw what happened.
"When she went out to play with the kids I hear the breaks of the car, when I come out, I see a little girl like crawling on the floo," the witness said.
The Floss Avenue Block Club says it's been asking the city for several years to address the speeding problem here. Residents say there have been other incidents of kids getting hit on the road.
"So far nothing has been done, you got people speeding up and down through here all day you hear them at night time flying through here day and night," said Clarence Magby, a member of the club.
We took those concerns to Common Council Member Rich Fontana who serves this section of Buffalo.
"Last month we sent an email addressing these concerns over to the chief of E district to make sure we get some extra speed enforcement on the street, I understand that has happened on occasion," Fontana said.
Buffalo Police say they stepped up patrol in this area in May, but it's unclear if those crews are still there.
