WASHINGTON- An investigation by our partners at USA TODAY found a shockingly high number of people across the country wanted for a crime in one state were not pursued by local authorities when they fled that state for another.
Overall their investigation found police and prosecuting agencies decided not even to attempt to extradite or pick up more than 186,000 wanted felons.
The situation isn't as bad in Western New York, where local police say they always make an effort to find an out-of-state suspect. However, they also admitted that sometimes they choose not to pursue out of state leads in an effort to save tax dollars.
