LEWISTON, N.Y. -- A former Niagara Falls City Council candidate faces a sex offense charge.
Niagara County deputies arrested Robert Elder and charged him with one count of "Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree."
According to New York State Penal Code, that charge indicates he's accused of having sexual contact with a child under the age of 13. The charge is a class D felony and has a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison.
Elder live in the Town of Lewiston, where he was arraigned on the charge.
He will be back in court Friday, January 24th.
Elder ended up dropping out of the Niagara Falls Council race in October of last year, well before the vote. He said the decision was for personal reasons.
Elder is a business owner and Army veteran.
