BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Pamela Brown, along with School Police Chief Kevin Brinkworth held a news conference Friday morning to answer questions about Thursday night's lockdown at Harvey Austin Elementary School.

According to a district spokesperson, 64 students were in the school at the time of the incident. The spokesperson says automated messages were not sent to all parents of the school, and the district decided to try to manually call the parents of the 64 students who were in the building.

Dr. Brown says some of those phone numbers were out of service or incorrect, and adds that the district will look at alternate ways to communicate with parents during crisis situations.

Dwayne Ferguson, the leader of the anti-violence organization Mad Dads, was arrested by Buffalo Police while leaving the school.

Chief Brinkworth says the gun was found on Ferguson when he was leaving school and patted down with everyone else. He did, however, have opportunities to come forward and present the gun earlier.

Ferguson was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, including having a loaded weapon on school grounds.
