Falling gas prices, like falling leaves, may cushion our regrets that summer is drawing to an end.
In fact, the national average price has slipped to $3.42 per gallon according to Gas Buddy.com. That's the lowest Labor Day weekend price since 2010.
As usual, here in Western New York we're higher than the national price once taxes and transportation from refineries factored in, but our prices are also down -- from $3.82 last year -- and from $3.81 just last month -- now we're down to $3.70 on average in this region.
An expert from Gas Buddy told us it's largely due to increased oil production in North America. Prices may keep tailing off through the fall and into the winter, despite unrest in the Middle East and Ukraine.
