Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Bryn Forbes and his 24 points led the Cleveland State Vikings to an 83-73 victory over the Texas-Arlington Mavericks at the College Park Center.
The Vikings (2-1) had two players with at least 20 points on the night. Forbes went 8-of-8 from the free throw line while Charlie Lee added 22 points.
The Mavericks (2-2) got a big game out of three players as Reger Dowell led all scorers with 25 points, Brandon Edwards had 21 points with 12 boards and Lonnie McClanahan chipped in 18 points.
Cleveland State went into the half leading 43-28 thanks to its strong 3-point shooting. The Vikings went 7-of-14 from beyond the arc in the first half and 46.4 percent from the field overall. The Mavericks struggled shooting the ball going 1-of-12 from 3-point range and shooting 31.0 percent overall.
The Vikings strong shooting continued after the break as they went 4-of-10 from beyond the arc and shot 50.0 from the field. The Mavericks improved on their 3-point shooting as they went 5-of-16 from 3-point range but shot 34.3 percent from the field.
Texas-Arlington outscored Cleveland State 45-40 in the second half but never managed to get closer than six points.
