ROCHESTER, N.Y.- For the first time in school history, Williamsville North advances to the Class A State Semifinals thanks to thrilling 23-20 win over Eastridge.
Down four points with 43 seconds left, Williamsville North scored the go-ahead touchdown as the Spartans make their first trip to the State Semifinals in school history.
Williamsville North struck drew first blood with a nine-yard Derick Isler touchdown run late in the first quarter.
The Spartans led 10-0 in the second quarter, when Eastridge quarterback Jametrius Lewis ran for an electrifying 74-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to three.
Williamsville North quarterback Ryan Majewski ran in a one-yard touchdown with 1:36 left in the first half, set up by a remarkable sideline catch by Kolbe Hughes.
North led 16-7 at halftime. In the first half, Derick Isler had 111 yards rushing on 14 carries and a touchdown.
In the second half, Eastridge scored twice including a one yard touchdown run by Jay'von Hampton and a 19-yard touchdown pass from Lewis to receiver Ricky Hagins.
Williamsville North's Derick Isler ran for 231 yards on 27 carries and one touchdown. North's quarterback Ryan Majewski was 12 for 22 for 142 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Spartans receiver Kolbe Hughes had six receptions for 60 yards. Wide receiver Zac Kelly had two receptions for 28 yards and one touchdown.
With the win, Williamsville North will play Union-Endicott next Friday at 8 p.m. at Salhen's Stadium in Rochester.
