BUFFALO, N.Y. --Buffalo BillsFree Safety Jairus Byrd has signed a one year franchise tender with the team.

Byrd was named the team's franchise player in March, but did not participate in any of the team's organized team activities (OTA), mini-camp, or training camp.

He will report to the team Thursday, after the Bills break camp at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford.

The one year deal guarantees Byrd $6.916 million for the season. Hewill beamong the highest paid players at his position.

A source tells 2 On Your Side's Adam Benigni that the Bills retain the right to use the franchise tagon Byrd again, after the season if both sides don't agree to a long term deal. That was a key negotiating point for Byrd as the impasse dragged on.

Byrd has intercepted 18 passes in four NFL seasons.
