BUFFALO, N.Y.-Between periods of the Sabres scrimmage Friday afternoon at the First Niagara Center Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier met the media.

Regier was asked about Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek. Both are in the final year of their contracts and certainly can't be thrilled with the Sabres going through a rebuilding phase. Regier said "We've had some discussion regarding both those players but obviously there here and they're part of our organization and nothing's changed in that regard."

Regier also addressed the return of veteran defenseman Henrik Tallinder. "We traded away a couple of defenseman at the deadline and it was an opportunity for us to bring back a defenseman that we were very familiar with. He is obviously someone who is very good defensively, can move the puck and is experienced and we think knowing what we know about him we think he'll fit in very well with our core and the young guys coming."

There has been widespread speculation that the Sabres brought Tallinder back to help out struggling Tyler Myers who has play has gone downhill since his tremendous rookie season when Tallinder was a mentor to him. Regier said "We didn't go into this re-acquiring Hank specifically for Tyler but I think it can and could help him."
