MOOSIC, P.A. (From Bisons.com)- Last night it was Kevin Pillar who provided the only runs for the Bisons against Rochester.

Tonight was Mike McCoy's turn as he pelted a two-run homer as the Herd dropped its second-straight game, 5-2 to Scranton Wilkes-Barre on Independence Day.

McCoy, who played left field, hit his second home run of the season to pull the Herd within three runs in the fifth inning. Shortstop Ryan Goins followed McCoy with a triple in the gap between center and right field with two outs, but Kevin Pillar popped up to end the inning with Buffalo still down by three.

McCoy went 2-for-4 with a single and a run scored to go along with the two-run homer and increased his season average to .264.

The Bisons did not record a hit against Scranton over the final four innings and were 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

Starting pitcher Ricky Romero took the mound for the 11th time for the Herd. The southpaw allowed nine hits, five runs, but only three were earned in six innings. He also struck out three and walked two while falling to 0-3 on the year.

Romero has now worked six or more innings in four of this last five starts for the Bisons.

After the two home runs allowed in the first, Romero rebounded with a 10-pitch, 1-2-3 inning in the second. A leadoff fielding by Buffalo in the third led to a 27-pitch inning and two runs scored against Romero. He regrouped and allowed just one more run in his final three innings.

A pair of solo home runs put Scranton ahead of the Bisons 2-0 early, as Brent Lillibridge and Randy Ruiz hit their fifth and seventh homers of the season, respectively.

The Rail Riders scored two more runs in the third after Dan Johnson hit a two-RBI single, scoring Adonis Garcia and Lillibridge to go up 4-0.

In the fourth frame, Addison Maruszak led off with a double to left field and three batters later Lillibridge hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Maruszak and increase Scranton's lead to five runs.

Right fielder Anthony Gose had two hits in the game, going 2-for-4 with two singles and a run scored.

Bisons Notes:Tonight's game was the first of a two-game series against Scranton...Kevin Pillar extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the first inning...60 of Ricky Romero's 95 pitches were thrown for strikes...RHP John Stilson struck out two in two innings pitched...The Herd dropped to 25-22 on the road this season...Still the second most road wins in the International League.
