BUFFALO, NY - The NHL Draft is this Sunday, and barring any trades the Sabres will be picking more than just about everyone.
That's a good thing in a draft that's regarded to be the deepest since 2003 - when the top ten included names like Marc-Andre Fleury, Eric Staal, Thomas Vanek and Ryan Suter.
GM Darcy Regier has ten picks to work with, tied for the most of any team. Four of those are in the first two rounds, including the 8th and 16th overall.
It's only the second time since 1987 that the Sabres have had a pick inside the top 10. The other time was that 2003 draft when they picked Vanek.
There are a lot of names that come up for the Sabres in the first round, and one of those seems to be the popular pick among experts:Swedish forward Elias Lindholm. He's only six feet tall but is still very physical, and he's seen as a fantastic playmaker and scorer.
Also getting attention is Ryan Pulock, a Canadian defenseman with excellent offensive skills who experts say has the ability to develop into a great defender as well.
The draft starts at 3pm on Sunday. Be sure to watch Channel 2 News at 6 for analysis on the Sabres picks.
And starting at 2pm, you can check out the Sabres draft party at the First Niagara Center. It's free with free parking, and there are a lot of activities on the arena floor for the kids as well as a 43% off sale at the Sabres store.
