Attleboro, MA (Sports Network) - Aaron Hernandez has been charged with murder stemming from a homicide investigation into the death of Odin Lloyd on June 17.
Hernandez was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, led away from his home in handcuffs by law enforcement authorities at about 8:45 a.m. ET. He was arraigned Wednesday in Attleboro District Court.
The New England Patriots released the Pro Bowl tight end less than two hours after his arrest.
Hernandez was charged nine days after the body of Lloyd was found near the player's home. Police had met with Hernandez and searched his home a few times last week.
Lloyd, who was 27 years old, was a semi-pro football player and said to be an acquaintance of Hernandez. Reports have indicated that Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.
