KENMORE, N.Y-Canisius beat St. Joes on Friday night in a MonsignorMartin rivalry game, 7-5.The Crusaders never trailed the Mauraders in this match-up, and werewinning 7-2 going into the lastframe.
"Wewereaggressive hitting the ball, and running the basses, and thats how we play" said Canisius Head Coach Bryan Tenney.
Canisius Second basemanKyle Liszewski barely put the game out of reach in the 5th inning with a 2RBIsingle that proved to be the difference in the game. Liszewski finished the game asthe Crusaders top performergoing 2-4 with 2 RBI's.
"I thought we played very good defense. I tell the kids it starts with pitching and defense. Collin and the reliever that came in pitched very well". Crusaders Coach Tenney was impressed with how his son pitched tonight for Canisius in a big game. Collin Tenney pitched 5 innings, gave up 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts for the Crusaders.
Brendan Kaplewicz had a excellent game for Canisius as well, going 1-3 at the plate, with 2 RBIs and he also scored 2 runs. Don Kilian had a great day for St. Joes going 1-3 with a home run in the 2nd inning that tied the game.
"We got a very good start this season with our trip to Florida, and we went toNew Jerseyand won a tournament. We had a hiccup where we lost four in a row. Now we've wonthree in a row. I like whatI see, they are hard working kids, and we're starting to build our momentum back up" said Coach Tenney.
With this win the Crusaders improve to 10-4 overall, 5-3 in league play. Canisius will play a non-league rivalry game tomorrow afternoon against Orchard Park at home. On Mondaynight St. Joes will get a rematch against Canisius,another home game for the Crusaders.
