CLARENCE, N.Y.-Clarence exploded in the 6th inning with 9 runs against West Seneca West on Tuesday to give the Red Devils a 14-6 victory in girls softball.
West Seneca West found themselves down 5-2 in the top of the 6th inning when the Indians rallied to take a 6-5 lead sparked by a 2 RBI triple by #23 Adrianna Lis. The Indians scored 4 runs in the 6th inning, which was capped off by #4 Lu Krawczyk's RBI Single to take the 6-5 lead.
Clarence wasted no time in the bottom of the 6th, exploding with a 9 run inning. Two errors and a walk loaded the bases for and RBI single by #1 Kayla Palmeri, which tied the game at 6 runs apiece. Following that RBI, #33 Kaycee Fracasso stepped up to the plate for a great at-bat. Fracasso battled off 6 pitches before she fouled a ball into her own facemask at the plate, a scary moment for everyone at the game. Fracasso was able to get up under her own power and continue her at-bat, the very next pitch hit her in the leg, which walked home the go-ahead run making the score 7-6.
Soon after Fracasso's at-bat #11 Katrina Buczkowski helped her own cause with a bases clearing double that scored 3 runs, giving the Red Devils a 11-6 lead. Surprisingly enough Fracasso got a second chance in the bottom of the 6th inning, the same inning she fouled a pitch into her facemask. Fracasso took advantage of her second opportunity at the plate and cleared all doubt when she smacked a 3 run triple to put the game out of reach, giving Clarence the lead for good, 14-6.
Fracasso finished the game with 3 RBI's on 2 hits with a single and a triple. She was able to overcome a scary moment and didn't think twice when she got back up to the plate. " To fight off pitches then after she fouled the one into her facemask, then she was hit by the next pitch. She came back and had a bases clearing triple in the same inning. What more can you ask from a girl on your team?" said Clarence Coach Todd Banasak, " She's a tough kid".
Buczkowski was a star on the mound earning the victory, but she also helped her own cause at the plate going 3 for 4 with 4 RBI's, 2 singles, and a double. Buczkowski went the distance for the Red Devils on the mound, recording 5 strikeouts and allowing 6 runs on 11 hits. Adrianna Lis was the top performer for West Seneca West with 2 hits on 5 at-bats with 2 RBI's.
" We have to play a lot better, we made far too many mistakes defensively. There are no easy games in our division, and we have to be ready. If you're not ready they'll jump on you. West made a lot of plays today" said Coach Banasak.
After this victory Clarence improves to 13-1 overall, and 6-1 in league play. The Red Devils will have a quick turnaround and will play host to Frontier on Wednesday at 4:45 PM.
