Washington, DC (Sports Network) - The Miami Marlins placed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day disabled list Sunday as the team announced its 2013 Opening Day 25-man roster.
Eovaldi went 3-0 with a 3.65 earned run average over six starts this spring, but mild right shoulder inflammation will force the 23-year-old right-hander to start the season on the DL.
Miami also placed pitcher Henderson Alvarez (mild right shoulder inflammation), infielder Joe Mahoney (intercostal strain) and catcher Jeff Mathis (fractured right clavicle) on the 15-day DL.
Pitcher Jose Ceda, infielder Logan Morrison and outfielder Alfredo Silverio were all transferred to the 60-day DL on Sunday as the Marlins made their final preparations for Monday's season opener in Washington.
To fill out the 25-man roster, the Marlins selected the contracts of pitchers Jose Fernandez, John Maine, Chad Qualls and Kevin Slowey, infielders Casey Kotchman and Chris Valaika and outfielder Austin Kearns. The club also recalled pitcher Alex Sanabia from Triple-A New Orleans and designated pitchers Scott Maine and Evan Reed, outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and infielder Zack Cox for assignment.
