ALBANY, N.Y.-NYS Class A Private School Champion John Adams was too much for McKinley on Friday in Albany. Adams defeated the Macks in the Federation Tournament Semifinals, 69-54.
McKinley had an extraordinary run to win the public school championship, but NYC private school John Adams was another story. John Adams was able to control the game early and get McKinley into foul trouble in the first quarter which led to a slow start for the Macks. John Adams' size in the post was the deciding factor in this game, Mckinley couldn't keep up with Adams' big men. Adams' senior forward # 4 Markell French led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, teammate Robert Johnson added 20 points.
John Adams outscored McKinley by 5 in the third quarter to give them a 47-34 lead going into the fourth quarter. Adams' big third quarter was too much for the Macks to handle. John Adams biggest lead was 16 in the third quarter, but it was cut to a 10 point lead immediately following two 3 pointers by McKinley Senior # 5 Reyjzon Jordan. Jordan finished the game with 15 points and had four 3 pointers. Senior # 15 Marcus Morris had a team high 18 points for the Macks, he also added three 3 pointers in the game. Morris was in foul trouble early and wasn't able to get into his usual game rhythm, the Macks had to rely on him down the stretch but it just wasn't enough for McKinley to get past John Adams.
McKinley's incredible playoff run has come to an end, the Macks finish the season with a 22-4 overall record. The Macks have gone undefeated in the Yale Cup two years in a row, and have gone further this year than any year before. McKinley can call themselves the NYS Public School Class A Champion. Macks Senior Reyjzon Jordan was selected to the Federation Class A All-Tournament Team.
John Adams improves to 25-5 on the season, and will move on to play Albany Academy in the Federation Championship game Saturday in Albany at 5:15 PM.
