Elon, NC (Sports Network) - The two top teams in the Southern Conference squared off at the Alumni Gym and it was the first-place Davidson Wildcats who came out on top over the Elon Phoenix, 69-63, thanks in large part to a 20- point performance from Chris Czerapowicz.
Czerapowicz also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for the Wildcats (22-7, 15-1 SoCon), who extended their win streak to 13 games. Jake Cohen added 12 points, while De'Mon Brooks chipped in 10 points.
Jack Isenbarger supplied 18 points with three 3-pointers for Elon (19-10, 12-5), which has lost two in a row on the heels of a four-game winning streak. Tanner Samson and Lucas Troutman scored 11 points each, while Samson had six rebounds and Troutman blocked four shots.
After holding Davidson below 40 percent shooting from the field in the first half, Elon carried a 34-31 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Wildcats improved their field goal efficiency to 45.5 percent and shot 14-of-18 from the free-throw line to take control of the contest down the stretch.
The charity stripe is where Davidson earned its advantage, outscoring Elon at the line, 19-8.
