AMHERST, N.Y.-At the Northtown Center in Amherst Monday night Clarence fell behind Frontier early but rallied for a 4-2 win and a spot in the WNY Federation Large School hockey championship game next Monday.

Frontier got two first period goals including one on the power play to take a 2-nothing lead after the first period. # 13 Gavin Evancho opened the scoring for the Falcons early in the first period and then on the power play # 21 Nick Ortiz tipped in a shot to give the Falcons the two goal lead.

Clarence head coach Richard told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "we came out with a decent amount of intensity but we played a little tight. We tried to make things happen that weren't available. It showed up when they scored. We gave up good chances and they took advantage of it because they have good goal scorers. We talked between periods about having fun and getting back to our game. Once we got some momentum things started to go our way. In the first period we were buzzing along the boards and the goal line, we had 11 shots but none were difficult to handle. We needed to get better shots and get the puck to the middle of the rink."

Unfortunately for Frontier they couldn't hold the lead. Clarence scored twice in the second period to tie and the Red Devils got two more in the third to put the game away.

For Clarence # 28 George Haugeto started the scoring in the second period. # 12 JoshSliwinski tied it at two and that's the way it stayed until the third period. On the power play in the third period # 18 Josh Owczarzk got what turned out to the game winning goal. Brooks said "we got the game winner on the power play. We've worked on it a lot and it finally paid off." The Red Devils final goal came shorthanded off the stick of # 19 Tristan Drescher.

Clarence will play the defending WNY Federation Large School champion Niagara Wheatfield for the Federation Championship next Monday at the First Niagara Center. Brooks told Stu "there's a reason they're defending champions. They're pretty good and they showed it tonight beating a good Lancaster team." Face off is scheduled for 4-pm.
