AMHERST, N.Y.- The regular unofficial practice session of the locked-out Buffalo Sabres got a few new faces Monday morning at the Northtown Center in Amherst.

Tamara Stewart of Niagara Falls, Adam Green of Cleveland, John Corda, Edward Spiesz & Daniel Buchanon of Buffalo and Sabre alumnus Jay McKee took to the ice to get a last minute tune-up.

The six guests are the local qualifiers for an event that makes skating with the Sabres seem like a skate in the park. They will be competing in Saturday's Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship event in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Crashed Ice is an extremesport that is like a combination of hockey, short-track speedskating, moto-cross, downhill skiing and, at times, demolition derby.

This week, they are putting the finishing touches on the 640 meter track. It includes a 30 degree first drop, along with jumps and hairpin turns. The sport is growing in popularity, events last season drew 80,000 and 100,000 fans.
