VILLAGE OF HAMBURG, NY - Residents of the Village of Hamburg may notice something missing next time they drive through the South Park and Clark roundabout.

That's because around 3:10 a.m. Saturday morning, Bryon Serio, 30-years-old, drove his Ford Fusion through the roundabout and knocked the tear-shaped statue right off its pedestal.

Police tell us Serio was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

But as for the statue, it is being kept in a safe place with the Highway Department until officials can evaluate what they're going to do with it.

Saturday afternoon, 2 On Your Side talked to Village of Hamburg Mayor Thomas Moses. He says it's too early to tell just how much damage the sculpture sustained and he didn't know how much it will cost to repair it.

"We're going to have our guys go out and monitor it on Monday, and take a look and see, and come up with what the costs are because we got some granite that's damaged there. We're going to have to straighten that pedestal up in the middle so you know there a considerable amount of damage. There's no doubt about that," said Moses.

The Mayoralso said the Village will seek to recover some of the repair costs from Bryon Serio.

"That's what we normally do. We normally have the insurance companies take a look at that and see what we can do to get that taken care of," Moses said.

Last month, a truck drove through the roundabout on Big Tree Road and struck the ornamental boulders that were blocking cars from driving through. That accident claimed the life of 54-year-old Ken Braun of Blasdell.
