Tyler Ennis scored two goals for Buffalo, and backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth played the whole game in net.
Tuesday's contest was a special homecoming for Sabres Forward Jochen Hecht. Despite not playing due to a concussion he suffered early in training camp, Hecht lead the Sabres onto the ice at SAP Arena in his hometown of Mannheim, where he played before leaving for the NHL. Hecht wore the captain's "C" on his Sabres jersey and was the last player to leave the ice after warmups, but not before leading the crowd in chants and tossing pucks over the glass.
This was also a happy night for more than 30 Sabres fans who were stranded in Philadelphia after their connecting flight to Germany was delayed over the weekend. Though they missed the first couple of days of the trip, they arrived in Mannheim in time to see the Sabres' win.
The Sabres travel to Finland on Wednesday morning to open the season against theAnaheim Ducks on Friday night. Following that contest, the team travels overnight to Berlin where they'll close out theNHL Premiere series against the Los Angeles Kings.
