ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - For a lot of Western New Yorkers, it's hard to imagine a summer without a milkshake from Taffy's. The little stand on Orchard Park Road has been serving up countless favors of the cool summertime treat for 65 years now.
Just a look at the menu can be a bit daunting...the flavor count has grown to well over 100 now, with everything from classic chocolate and vanilla to PB&J, key lime and mango. And for the extra thirsty, they're even served in quart sizes- great for sharing.
The eatery also earns a lot of fans with its simple menu of summertime staples of hamburgers, hot dogs and hoagies.
Rich Eliah, part of the owning family, says a lot has changed since his dad started the place in 1949, when the corner was a lot quieter and deer used to scamper through the area behind the stand. The seating has expanded a lot with a growing outdoor patio.
Still the same, though, are the simple interior and the familiar atmosphere that Eliah tries to bring to customers, many of whom are regulars with "usual" orders that they can get started as soon as they arrive.
