
(wgrz.com) The Buffalo Sabres repaid the Washington Capitals for their only pre season loss by handing the Caps their first loss of the exhibition season 2-1 Monday night at Washington. The Caps had beaten the Sabres 4-3 in Buffalo last Thursday.
All the scoring came in the second period, as the Sabres scored goals just :11 apart. Drew Stafford scored at 5:55 of the second period with assists going to Chris Butler and Tim Connolly, and at 6:06, Patrick Kaleta scored to make it 2-0 Buffalo. The Caps Keith Aucoin scored the only goal allowed by Sabres goalie Patrick Lalime later in the second period, as the Sabres held on to win 2-1.
Lalime stopped 19 of 20 shots on goal, while the Sabres had 21 shots. The Sabres are 2-1 in the pre season.
