Canalside packed for second World Cup watch party

BUFFALO, NY- It was a crowd 3,000 strong by estimate which came to enjoy the sun, the fun, the food, and of course the game. USA took on Germany in this World Cup game and there was the ecstasy of a blocked shot and then the agony of Germany's goal within seconds.

Even though it ended that way with a one to "nil" win for Germany, Team USA did advance as soccer fans now know because they hold the tie-breaker over Portugal.. And so did the image of Canalside. Minh who is an ECC student said "It's beautiful with the harbor and the setting. And you've got mad fans who all are here to cheer on our national team. It's a good feeling. I get a good vibe." And Kate Colosi added "I think it's a great setting with the big screen TV's here and the crowd. It's a great place for the game today."

This was actually round two of a World Cup game presentation for the Erie Canal Harbor Development group which runs Canalside. And after Sunday's success with 5,000 people they were set. Robert Goia, chairman of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation which runs Canalside, says "We learned on Sunday. We had that crowd and we were overwhelmed a bit so now we got more food trucks and port-a-johns and we're set. With a location like this, if you give people a reason to come down and attractions to enjoy, they will come."

Some of those who came along this time used an extended lunch hour or perhaps just played a little midday hookey from the office like banker John DeLuca who agreed the setting was terrific. .

Whatever the case, they'll be ready for tonight's concert at Canalside as well as the summer season of events keeps rolling on at the waterfront setting.
