Rex, Bills need Gilmore to play better

Bills head coach Rex Ryan needs better play from his top cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

ORCHARD PARK, NY- On a day when the Buffalo Bills gave up 41 points to the New England Patriots, no one had a worse outing than Stephon Gilmore.

According to NFL analytics service Pro Football Focus, the Bills cornerback was the third worst player in football on Sunday.

Gilmore gave up 105 yards on four catches, including a 53-yard touchdown to Patriots WR (and former Bills WR) Chris Hogan.

Per PFF, Brady finished with a perfect passer rating of 158.3 when throwing at Gilmore.

Head coach Rex Ryan and the Bills need better play from their top cornerback.

"It hasn't been all bad, but clearly, he had some struggles in that game," admitted Ryan. "Two or three holding calls. Obviously had a big mistake on that Hogan touchdown, so it wasn't a great performance on his part."

Gilmore is currently in the final year of his rookie contract.

Before the season, Gilmore and the Bills were unable to agree on an extension because he wanted money in the same neighborhood as the game's top cornerbacks.

At this point, Gilmore's play has not warranted a monster contract.

And if his play doesn't improve dramatically (and quickly), the Bills would be wise to use that money elsewhere in the offseason.
