third period as the Boston Bruins beat the New York Islanders, 4-2, at TD
Garden. Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell also scored for the Bruins, who
improved to 3-0-1 this season and recovered from an overtime loss to the
Rangers on Wednesday. Tuukka Rask made 24 stops to remain unbeaten in
regulation in the early going. Keith Aucoin potted both goals for the
Islanders, who couldn't sustain momentum from a 7-4 win in Toronto on
Thursday. Making his first start since Dec. 3, 2011 thanks to a continually
bothersome groin issue, Rick DiPietro allowed four goals on 27 shots.

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Jay Harrison scored the deciding goal with 4:50
remaining in the third period as the Carolina Panthers completed a home-and-
home sweep of the Buffalo Sabres with a 3-1 decision at First Niagara Center.
Alexander Semin and Jeff Skinner also tallied in the final session for the
Hurricanes, while Dan Ellis stopped 40 shots in a sharp first start of the
season to help Carolina build off Thursday's 6-3 win over the Sabres. Ryan
Miller made 39 saves for Buffalo, which began the 2012-13 campaign with
victories over Philadelphia and Toronto before last night's defeat in Raleigh.
Thomas Vanek recorded the Sabres' lone goal of the evening.

Newark, NJ (Sports Network) - Ilya Kovalchuk's goal with 21 seconds left in
overtime lifted the New Jersey Devils to a 3-2 win over the Washington
Capitals at Prudential Center. Kovalchuk received a pass from Marek Zidlicky
on the end line and beat Capitals goaltender Michael Neuvirth with a wrister
for the win. Zidlicky had two assists and Patrik Elias and Stephen Gionta each
added a goal for the Devils, who improve to 3-0 on the lockout-shortened
season. Martin Brodeur stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in the victory.
Mike Ribeiro and Mike Green each scored one goal for Washington (0-3-1), which
has gone winless in its first four games.

Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Ryan Malone scored the game-tying goal early in
the third period and then provided the go-ahead goal with just over seven
minutes remaining, as the Tampa Bay Lightning handed the Ottawa Senators their
first loss of the season with a 6-4 decision on Friday at Tampa Times Forum.
Steven Stamkos registered a goal and two assists, while Matt Carle, Victor
Hedman and Tom Pyatt also lit the lamp for the Lightning, who have won two
straight. Anders Lindback recorded 32 saves in the victory. Kyle Turris
tallied a goal and an assist, while Erik Condra, Jason Spezza, and Erik
Karlsson each scored once for Ottawa, which had won four straight against the
Lightning. Ben Bishop was charged for five goals on 30 shots in a losing
effort.

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Todd Bertuzzi scored twice in his first game of
the season, while Pavel Datsyuk added a goal and two assists as the Detroit
Red Wings posted a 5-3 decision over the Minnesota Wild at Joe Louis Arena.
Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner also lit the lamp for the Red Wings, who
had dropped two of three to begin the season. Jimmy Howard stopped 23-of-26
shots for the win. Zach Parise posted a pair of goals for the Wild, who have
lost two in a row. Josh Harding was tagged for all five scores on 27 shots.

Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Andrew Ladd's wrister capped a three-goal
second period, as the Winnipeg Jets took down the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-2, on
Friday at MTS Centre. Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien added a goal apiece in
the second stanza, while Blake Wheeler added an empty-netter late in the third
to help the Jets earn their second consecutive victory. Ondrej Pavelec turned
away 33 shots in the triumph. Sidney Crosby, playing in his first career game
in Winnipeg, recorded both Pittsburgh goals in the first period and Tomas
Vokoun was charged for three goals on 31 shots for the Penguins, who have
dropped two straight.
