New York, NY (Sports Network) - Despite having the worst odds, the Los Angeles
Sparks won the top overall pick in the 2012 WNBA draft at the lottery held on
Thursday.
Los Angeles had just 104 chances out of 1,000 to get the top pick, but beat
out Chicago, Minnesota and Tulsa.
The only other team to acquire the top pick with the fewest chances was
Phoenix, which accomplished the feat prior to the 2007 draft.
Chicago, which had the second fewest chances, will have the second draft pick
while Minnesota, which obtained Washington's draft pick in a trade last
season, had the second best chance and will choose third.
Tulsa, which finished last in the WNBA last season, will select fourth.
San Antonio will have the fifth pick in the first round, followed by Phoenix
and New York. Washington acquired the eighth and 10th selections from Atlanta
and Seattle, respectively. Connecticut will choose ninth, while Indiana and
Minnesota own the last two picks.
