New York, NY (Sports Network) - Chicago Sky center Sylvia Fowles has been
named the WNBA's Defensive Player of the Year for the 2011 season.
In voting by a nationwide panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, Fowles
received 19 out of 40 votes, one more than Indiana Fever forward Tamika
Catchings, who won the honor last season. Connecticut Sun center Tina Charles
(2) and Sky guard Epiphanny Prince (1) received the remaining votes.
Fowles led the league for the second straight year in blocks per game (2.0),
and ranked second overall in rebounds (10.2 rpg) and double-doubles (22).
She also averaged 20 points per game, and her eight straight double-doubles
from August 7-28 set a WNBA single-season record.
