Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers picked up the
option on head coach Doug Collins' contract, ensuring that he will
guide the team through the 2013-14 season.
Collins led the Sixers to a 35-31 record in a truncated campaign last season,
the second straight year he guided the club to a playoff berth. Philadelphia
toppled favored Chicago in the first round before falling in a seven-game
conference semifinal to the Boston Celtics.
Since arriving in Philly two years ago, the 61-year-old Collins has racked up
a 76-72 regular-season record with an 8-10 postseason mark.
The former first-round pick of the Sixers in 1973 out of Illinois State owns a
408-359 lifetime coaching record for the Bulls (1986-89), Pistons (1995-98),
Wizards (2001-03) and Sixers.
