Goodyear, AZ (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians announced Friday that
All-Star closer Chris Perez has a strained right shoulder and could be
sidelined for the next month.
Perez has a strain of the subscapularis muscle in his right shoulder and will
not throw for the next 7-to-10 days, leaving him unavailable to pitch for Team
USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Once he begins throwing, Perez will resume game activity in 3-to-4 weeks.
The 27-year-old right-hander recorded 39 saves for the Tribe last season and
posted an 0-4 record with a 3.59 earned run average in 61 games.
The Indians also announced Friday that pitcher Frank Herrmann has a right
elbow strain and is out indefinitely.
