Port St. Lucie, FL (Sports Network) - Wilmer Flores hit a solo home run and
Marlon Byrd added an RBI single, as the New York Mets took a 5-2 win over the
University of Michigan in spring training play on Sunday.
Ruben Tejada hit a double and scored a run, while Brandon Hicks finished 2-
for-3 with a double and two runs scored in the victory.
Dillon Gee, whose 2012 season ended in July after undergoing surgery to remove
a blood clot in his shoulder, earned the win after replacing starter Jon Niese
in the third inning. Both pitchers tossed two innings, with each striking out
three and allowing an earned run on three hits.
Jacob Cronenworth had an RBI triple for Michigan, which sent Ben Ballantine to
the hill for the start. He was tagged for three runs on five hits with four
walks. In three innings of work, he struck out four and took the loss.
