Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have agreed
to terms on one-year contracts with pitchers Jason Vargas and Tommy Hanson and
to avoid arbitration.
Vargas was acquired by the Angels on Dec. 19 in exchange for designated hitter
Kendrys Morales. The 29-year-old lefty went 14-11 with a 3.85 earned run
average over 33 starts with the Mariners last season.
Vargas, a seven-year veteran, owns a career 42-50 record with a 4.35 ERA in
150 games, including 130 starts.
Hanson had spent his first four seasons in Atlanta before being acquired by
the Angels on Nov. 30. The hard-throwing right-hander went 13-10 with a 4.48
ERA over 31 starts with the Braves last season.
The 26-year-old California native has started 108 career games, compiling a
45-32 record with a 3.61 ERA.
