Houston, TX (Sports Network) - The Houston Astros signed first baseman and
designated hitter Carlos Pena to a one-year deal on Monday.
The signing addresses a key need as Houston transitions from the National
League to the American League.
The 34-year-old hit .197 with 19 home runs and 61 RBIs in 160 games for the
Rays last season.
Over the course of his 12-year career, Pena is a career .277 batter with 277
homers and 791 RBI. He has also spent time with the Rangers, Athletics,
Tigers, Red Sox and Cubs in addition to the Rays.
