Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Mariners hitting coach Chris Chambliss
will not return for the 2013 season.
Chambliss spent two seasons with the Mariners. A two-time World Series winner
as a player with the New York Yankees, he was also on the staff of four World
Series champions as Yankees hitting coach from 1996-2000.
"We will begin an immediate search for a new hitting coach," said Mariners
general manager Jack Zduriencik. "On behalf of the Mariners organization, I
want to thank Chris for all of his hard work and dedication over the past two
seasons."
The 63-year-old former first baseman was also hitting coach for the Cardinals
(1993-95), Mets (2002) and Reds (2004-06).
The remainder of the Mariners staff -- bench coach Robby Thompson, pitching
coach Carl Willis, first base coach Mike Brumley, third base coach Jeff Datz,
bullpen coach Jaime Navarro and bullpen catcher Jason Phillips -- will return
with manager Eric Wedge in 2013.
