Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - The New York Yankees and outfielder Brett Gardner
have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract.
Gardner appeared in 159 games for the Yankees last season, batting .259 with
career highs in both home runs (seven) and stolen bases (49) to go along with
his 36 RBI and 87 runs scored. He was tied with Oakland's Coco Crisp for the
American League lead in steals.
A third-round pick of the Yankees in 2005, Gardner has hit .264 with 15
homers, 135 steals, 122 RBI and 250 runs scored in 459 games.
