Vegas picks Sabres' William Carrier in Expansion Draft

Vegas picks Sabres' William Carrier in Expansion Draft

The Sabres lost 22-year-old William Carrier to the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft, but more importantly, they saved goaltender Linus Ullmark.

Also part of the deal: Vegas received a sixth-round pick in this year's NHL draft. This was likely to keep the Golden Knights away from Ullmark.

"There were two players that we really liked and Buffalo had interest in influencing us to go one direction to protect a certain part of their roster so they gave us a sixth-round pick," Vegas general manager, George McPhee said after the pick was announced on NBCSN.

Carrier appeared in 41 games for the Sabres last season and scored five goals and tallied three assists. He spent two seasons with the Rochester Americans before that.
