Sabres Focused on Playoffs to Start Training Camp

The Sabres opened up training camp on Thursday with the season opener less than a month away.

BUFFALO, NY - As the Sabres started training camp on Thursday, players were focused on one thing, make the playoffs. 

"The moves we made and how we finished last year, things like that add up to the excitement going into this year. You expect or want to make the playoffs. I think if we don't this year, it's a disappointment, I would say," Sabres captain Brian Gionta said. 

The Sabres made a splash in the offseason signing free-agen forward Kyle Okposo and traded for defenseman Dmitry Kulikov. 

"Our mindset now is playoffs. We're a team looking to compete and be a real threat.We're growing but I think we did a great job towards the end of last year of really finding our identity. We added some great pieces and it's really coming together," Forward Tyler Ennis said. 

The Sabres are on the ice on Friday, September 23rd for the first practice of camp. You can catch the players in action on the ice this weekend. Practices are HARBORCENTER are open to the public. Here is the schedule:

Saturday, Sept. 24

The Sabres' first preseason game is September 26 against the Minnesota Wild at the Pegula Ice Center at Penn State.
