Amerks hire Chris Taylor as coach

ROCHESTER, NY -  The Rochester Americans, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres, have hired Chris Taylor as head coach, the team announced Friday.

Taylor becomes the 32nd coach in the Amerks' 62-year history. Taylor has spent 14 seasons in Rochester as both a player and a coach. Taylor also played 90 games over four seasons with the Sabres from 1999 to 2004. He scored eight goals and 20 points.

“We’re excited to welcome Chris back to the organization as the next head coach of the Rochester Americans,” said Amerks General Manager Randy Sexton. “He has a proven track record of developing players in the American Hockey League and there’s certainly no one more familiar with the organization than Chris.”

Taylor recently served as an assistant coach with the Wilkes-Barre/Scanton Penguins last season, the same organization that Sabres GM Jason Botterill worked with prior to coming to Buffalo.
