Marrone: "I believe in Marcell"

HAMBURG, NY - Hamburg Police are investigating an accident that occurred last Friday involving a car driven by Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus.

Hamburg Police say they received a call about two vehicles allegedly racing on Route 179 near McKinley Parkway.

Before officers arrived on scene, one of the cars, a white Jaguar, crashed near the Mongolian Buffet Restaurant, striking a tree and causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

Witnesses told police that they saw two vehicles, the white Jaguar and a black Camero, were speeding down Route 179 just before the Jaguar crashed.

Police say the Jaguar was driven by Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Marcell Dareus, 24.

Dareus is charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving and participating in an illegal speed contest. He was arraigned Monday in court. He is due back in court June 17.

Police are still trying to identify the driver of the black Camero.

Meanwhile, Dareus was not at the Bills' OTA's on Monday. Bills head coach Doug Marrone says he is not attending the OTA's and that it is not a disciplinary action.

Marrone spoke to the media regarding Dareus after the OTA's and says he stands by him. "I just want to make sure that I'm clear, that everyone understands, that I believe in Marcell, and I will do everything I can to make sure we can get him on the right track."

Marrone says he knows the identity of the second driver involved in Saturday's incident, but would not identify that person, or speak any further on it.
