Bills Game 1 Anaylsis

BALTIMORE, MD-

1st Quarter:  The Bills offense did not get a first down in the quarter. LeSean McCoy has been a workhorse rushing and receiving but so far the Bills have not moved the ball at all. Tyrod Taylor was off target on a pass to Charles Clay. The Bills had 2 yards total in the quarter. One big difference for Taylor this year there are expectations whereas a year ago he just a player who had won a 3 way QB competition.  The defense has given up 114 total yards in the first half but only 3 points. The Ravens have moved the ball but turned it over once. There has been some pressure on Joe Flacco but its been inconsistent. Ravens lead 3-0 after one quarter and have been the dominant team.

2nd Quarter- The Bills found their offense. Tyrod Taylor with a vintage Tyrod type play to spin away from the rush and find Charles Clay who carried it inside the Baltimore 10 yard line. Its more than fair to wonder why the tight  end, Clay, a high priced free agent isn't targeted more often. That Clay played  led to a 1 yard LeSean McCoy touchdown run. The Bills used 2 timeouts in the series as they lost a challenge before McCoy scored. Rex Ryan with a gutsy call to go for it on 4th down instead of taking the 3 points on the field goal try. Joe Flacco connected with Mike Wallace for a 66 yard touchdown. Duke Williams was beat on the play. The Bills have been tough against the run allowing only 47 yards rushing to the Ravens.  In the air the Ravens have 178 yards passing. The Bills trail by 3 at halftime 10-7.

3rd Quarter-The Bills came out and moved the ball very well on their first drive of the second half.  However the Ravens stiffened and forced a field goal try that was no good. Dan Carpenter missed from 49 yards out. Neither team has been able to move the ball on the ground very well. Both teams have less than 60 yards rushing after 3 quarters. The game has turned into a defensive struggle with neither offense able to do too much and there was no scoring in the quarter. The score remains Baltimore 10 Buffalo 7. The game remains there for the taking for the Bills.

4th Quarter-A great defensive effort is wasted by the Bills.  The Bills offense can muster just 7 points.  The Bills were held to just 65 yards rushing. The Bills held the Ravens to 83 yards on the ground. Penalties were once again a problem for the Bills as they took 8 for 89 yards. Twice penalties extended Ravens drives. Despite  missing key performers on defense the Bills held the Ravens to 13 points and just one touchdown. Jerel Worthy was hit with a leverage penalty as the Ravens kicked a field goal. The points came off the board and the Ravens ate  up more of the clock before Justin Tucker got the 3 points that stayed on the board. The Bills lack of a receiving threat other than Sammy Watkins really hurt them in the season opener. The Bills had no downfield passing game. They seem reluctant to try to force the ball into Watkins hands. Why ? Tyrod Taylor was hit hard and often and while he made a number of plays he was unable to come up with any 4th quarter magic. The Bills clock management was questionable at best as they had 1 time out remaining when the two minute warning was given. The Bills failed to take advantage of the only turnover in the game, the Ravens coughed up the ball in the first quarter and the Bills failed to put any points on the board from the turnover.  The Bills open the season at home Thursday night against the New York Jets.

Also a couple of Bills found a different way to get to the stadium besides taking the team bus.

Left behind by the team bus, two members of the Buffalo Bills opted to take Uber to the stadium for the opener against the Ravens.

Linebacker Jerry Hughes posted a video on Instagram showing him and linebacker Zach Brown in a car, supposedly en route to M&T Bank Stadium.

A Bills official said the two players could have waited for a second team bus leaving from the hotel.
