Bills Jags Quarter by Quarter

 

ORCHARD PARK, NY-  

 

4th Quarter- There have been big plays in the second half. Its a 6 point Buffalo lead as the fourth quarter starts.  The Jags score on the first play of the quarter Bortles to Hurns for the 12 yard touchdown.  Hurns walks off grabbing his hamstring. The extra point is good and the Jags take a 21-20 lead. 

The Bills come right back with a catch  and run  of 25 yards by McCoy.  The Bills have a 3rd and 5 at the Jags 43 yard line. The Taylor pass for Sammy Watkins is picked off but there is a flag on the play. The Jags are called for pass interference. 

After a catch  for 8 yards by Marquise Goodwin the Bills have a 1st and 10 at the Jags 15 yard line.  Justin Hunter catches the 16 yard pass for the touchdown. Bills are going for two and get it. McCoy takes it in and its a 28-21 Bills lead. 

The Jags have a 3rd and 1 at their own 34 yard line. The  Bills stop the run short of the first down and will get the ball back. 

Neither team has turned the ball over so far in this game. 

McCoy stopped for a 2 yard loss then the pass to Clay is incomplete. Tyrod Taylor runs for the first down on 3rd and 12.  The Jaguars are challenging the spot.  The Jaguars win the challenge. The Bills have a 4th and 1 at their own 30 yard line. The Bills line up as if they are going for it. Then before the play clock runs out the Bills call time out. Not good clock management. Why waste the time out ?

Bills get a break when pass interference is not called. The  Jags get a first down on the next play.  Bortles has hurt the Bills with his running today. 

The Jags with a 4th and 4 at the Bills 40 yard line.  The Jags are called for delay of game.  It will be 4th and 9, The pass is complete by Nickell Robey-Coleman makes the tackle after a gain of four. The  Bills take over on downs. 

 

The  Jags have used all 3 times outs with 3:09 remaining in the fourth quarter.  The pass to Charles Clay  is just enough for a first down. 

The 2 minute warning stops the clock.

McCoy runs for the first time and that will do it. Bills win 28-21.

 

3rd quarter-Bills get the ball to start the second half.  What a start. LeSean McCoy 75 yards for the touchdown. This time Carpenter makes the extra point. Bills lead 13-7.

The Jags with a 3rd & 5 at the Bills 41 yard line. The Jags burn a time out. That seems to have  a way of coming back to bite you in the backside later in the game.  The Jags run for it and gain 6 for the first down.  THe Jags face another third down, 3rd and 9 from the Bills 34 yard line. They convert when Bortles hits Neal Sterling for 10 yards. 

Jags 3rd and 6 from the Bills 20 yard line. Touchdown Jacksonville. Marqise Lee. The point after is good and the Jags take a 14-13 lead with 9:26 left in the third quarter. 

Bills go nowhere. Tyrod Taylor runs twice, takes a big hit and the Bills do not get a first down. Not the way to answer a touchdown by the Jags. 

The Bills take an offsides penalty and hand the Jags 5 yards wiping out another good defensive play.  It sets up a second and 3. The Jags get another first down.  ZachBrown with a big hit to break up a pass play and one third down the Bortles pass is incomplete.  The pass on third down was deflected by Lorenzo Alexander. The Jags will punt. 

Tyrod Taylor connects with Sammy Watkins for a 62 yard gain and the Bills are in business at the Jags 13 yard line.  Bills wide receiver Walter Powell is injured on the  second down play. The teams have been directed to the sidelines.  

When play resumes Tyrod Taylor runs for the touchdown and the Bills retake the lead. Carpenter adds the extra point and the Bills lead 20-14 with 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter. 

Bortles overthrows a wide open Hurns. Then runs for the first down and then some.  A 15 yard gain for the Jags QB. Bills wide receiver Walter Powell is out for the game with an ankle injury.

Bortles to Allen Robinson for a 24 yard gain as the third quarter comes to an end with the  Bills lead 20-14.  Jags have a 1st and 10 at the Bills 12 yard line. 

 

 

2nd Quarter- The Bills drive will start at their own 7 yard line after the Jacksonville punt.  Tyrod Taylor keeps the drive alive with a 6 yard run for a first down on third down. 

Bills get a first down on a penalty as the Jags are called for pass interference.  After a loss of 2 Taylor is sacked. Bills face a 3rd and 17 from their own 33 yard line.  Make it 3rd and 22 as the Bills take a false start penalty.

Tyrod Taylor is not having a good day. The Bills are being physically dominated but Taylor has had open receivers but has been unable to connect with them. He has been hesitant to let it fly and that has cost the Bills some opportunities. 

The Jags just barely convert a third and 6 and are now at the Bills 47 yard line. The Bills are challenging the spot.  The Bills lose the challenge and a time out that goes with it.

Ronald Darby will not return to the game.  Then the Jags complete a pass from a gain of 22. The Bills are challenging that saying the receiver was out of bounds.  The Bills win the challenge and get the ball back. The Bills are out of challenges. 

Sammy Watkins makes his first two catches of the day. The first one was for 12 yards and the second one for 6 yards. 

Taylor to Goodwin for the Bills first down.  On the first down the Bills take a holding penalty which doesn't help.  Bills with a 3rd and 10 and the pass for Jonathan Williams is incomplete. The  offense continues to really struggle today. 

Dareus sacks Bortles. Jags face a third and 18 from their own 14 yard line. Its the 2 minute warning.  The Bills force a punt and will get the ball back. There is a flag on the play for running into the kicker. The Jags will have to kick it again but a nice return by Brandon Tate is lost. 

Tate has a better return and a Jags penalty and the Bills are in business. The throw for Nick O'leary is high and incomplete.  The Bills are at the Jacksonville 22 yard line. 

Its 3rd & 2 from the Jags 14 yard line for the Bills.  The third down pass to Walt Powell gains one yard and the Bills have a decision to make. The Bills go for it and Jonathan Williams gets the first down.  On the very next play LeSean McCoy runs 7 yards for the touchdown. Dan Carpenter misses the extra point, wide left and Jacksonville still leads 7-6.

Jacksonville knees it down and the half ends with the Jags leading 7-6. Not an impressive performance by the Bills offense. 

 

1st Quarter:  Bills win the toss and defer. Jags will have the ball first . The Bills stop an impressive opening drive by the Jags but on the third and goal play Corey White is called for holding. 1st and goal Jaguars. Killer penalty. Chris Ivory runs for the two yard touchdown. The Jags chewing up impressive chunks of yardage on the ground during the game. Ivory had gains of 10 & 14 yards and quarterback Blake Bortles ran for 27 yards. The Jags were 2 for 2 on third down on the drive. Jags take the early 7-0 lead before the Bills get their hands on the ball.  11 plays and 75 yards on the drive. 

The Bills go 3 and out on their first posession. LeSean McCoy is dropped for a 2 yard loss. A catch by Charles Clay goes for 10 yards and then Tyrod Taylor is brought down short of the first down. The Bills punt the ball back to the Jags. 

After tackling Chris Ivory Ronald Darby heads directly to the Bills locker room with the trainers. This as the Jags are again moving the ball.  The Bills get a huge break when Allen Hurns  is wide open and drops a pass that would have been a huge gain. The Jags punt the ball back to the Bills. 

Darby being looked at for a possible concussion. 

The Bills go 3 & out. Taylor is sacked on third down. There are some boos from the crowd. 

The Jacksonville drive ends as Marcell Dareus sacks Blake Bortles. Bills will get the ball back to start the second quarter. Jags 7 Bills 0 after one.
