Casey Mittelstadt shines at Sabres development camp

BUFFALO- For Sabres fans, it's hard not to get excited for what's to come. Sometimes you just have to see it, to believe it.

A key piece of the Sabres' future is Casey Mittelstadt.

The 2017 first round pick shined at development camp over the weekend, and he saved his best for last.

In Tuesday's 3-on-3 tournament, Mittelstadt dangled defender after defender and he turned in the highlight of the game: skating around a defender and sneaking the puck past the goalie on the front post.

The 18-year-old put on a show, and Sabres GM Jason Botterill knows the best is yet to come.

"You see what we were excited about," said Botterill. "He's going to a great program in Minnesota, this year. We're expecting him to really blossom. There's always an adjustment to NCAA hockey, but he's going to be surrounded by good players there. And, we're expecting a very strong year for him."

Mittelstadt will not be wearing blue and gold this year, but assuming he takes the next step at Minnesota, the NHL may only be a year or so away.
