BOSTON, MA - If the Bills are going to win just their second game ever at Gillette Stadium, now is the time to do so. The Patriots will be without Tom Brady as he serves the final game of his Deflategate suspension. But simply not facing Brady isn't enough for a Bills win. It will be a huge factor, but the Bills need to avoid mental mistakes in this one. Here are my keys 2 the game:
Key one: It sounds simple but don't turn the ball over. This has been a problem for the Bills at Gillette and they can't give the Patriots any extra help. They don't need any extra possessions and we've seen this script play out before. Remember Leodis McKelvin back in 2009? That's a game the Bills should have won but McKelvin fumbled a kickoff return that ultimately led to a New England win.
Key two: Dial up the pressure. We saw what the Bills did to Carson Palmer last week and now it's time to keep it up. They have to take advantage of a Patriots' inexperienced quarterback. They won't get the ball out as quick as Brady would so blitzing is important.
Key three: Commit to the run game. Given the Bills lack of options in the passing game, ground and pound is their formula for success. LeSean McCoy is healthy and when you pair that with Tyrod Taylor's ability to run, the duo is a threat. They combined for three touchdowns last week and Rex Ryan called Taylor the "fastest quarterback in the league".
