Wolverines Bailey to Rhode Island

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.-Niagara Falls senior quarterback Richard Bailey will play college football at the University of Rhode Island.

Bailey who is listed at 6'"3 205 lbs played quarterback in high school but will play free safety at Rhode Island. Bailey told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "Of course Rhode Island is right on the beach, its gorgeous but I love their coaches. Their coaches are funny guys. Their players are great to get along with. They have the program I want to study in school and its just a great place to be around." Bailey wants to study sports management at Rhode Island.

Bailey tore the ACL in his left knee playing basketball before his senior season but was able to return for the year. As a senior he averaged more than 7 yards per carry, gaining 337 yards and scoring three touchdowns on 47 attempts. He also passed for 335 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, he had 32 tackles, five passes defensed, three forced fumbles, two interceptions and one return for a touchdown in six games.

Bailey told Stu "Utter joy is the emotion. I've been dreaming about this, being able togo college for free and playing football is something I'vedreamed about my whole entire life.This isn't the day I've been waiting for this is the day I have been working for."

Bailey will be joined at Rhode Island by at least one other player from Western New York. Denzel Benton from Canisius High School will also play for the Rams.
