Timon AD Charlie Comerford resigns

Bishop Timon Athletic Director/Football Coach Resigns

BUFFALO, NY - Charlie Comerford has stepped down from his roles as football coach and athletic director at Bishop Timon-St. Jude, according to a statement Comerford posted on Twitter Saturday.

Comerford, a 2001 Timon graduate, had been the school's football coach since 2011 and became AD shortly after. Comerford was a two-time first-team All-Western New York selection in football and basketball. He continued his athletic career at Holy Cross. The news was first reported by WNYAthletics.com.

"I have resigned as head football coach and athletic director at Bishop-Timon," Comerford wrote in a statement. "There are many different reasons for my decision, but the main factor was our principal Michele Battin. Michele was the finest administrator, teacher, leader, friend and boss I've ever had. If people knew the stuff she did on a daily basis to keep this school viable, they'd be astonished. In my opinion, Timon cannot absorb losing a leader like Michele. If this is the path the school is taking, I don't want to be part of it."

Timon President Kevin McLaughlin tells 2 On Your Side that the school decided not to renew Battin's contract.

McLaughlin says that Comerford resigned from Timon on Friday.

"We thank him for his years of service to our school. We are actively pursuing new candidates for these positions and have nothing but the best interest of our students in mind," McLaughin said.

Below is Comerford's full statement.
