JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - In a New York State powerhouse matchup, Canisius beat Jamestown 27-14 on Friday night. An estimated crowd of 6,000 fans were in attendance at Strider Field. Canisius improves to 4-0 on the season while Jamestown falls to 3-1.
Leading the way for the Crusaders was running back Mitch Thomas. He rushed for a game-high 249 yards on 20 carries. Brad Zaffram also contributed to the running game with 2 rushing touchdowns. In the air, quarterback Jakob Loucks connected with TJ Wheatley for a 15 yard touchdown pass.
Defensively, Canisius held Jamestown to 198 total yards of offense.
For Jamestown, quarterback Nikk Holland completed 15-27 passes for 157 yards. He connected with Stephen Carlson for an 80 yard touchdown pass in the second half. Carlson ended the night with 5 catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Carlson tallied 13 tackles.
This is only the second meeting between Jamestown and Canisius. The two last met in 2009 at Canisius when the Crusaders won 28-2.
Up next for Canisius, they face Monsignor Martin rival St. Joe's on Saturday, October 4th. Jamestown's week 5 matchup is at home against Frontier next Friday, October 3rd.
