ORCHARD PARK, NY - Dunkirk football won its first Section VI championship with a 46-35 win over Cheektowaga for the Class B title.
Cheektowaga, the two-time defending Class B champs, jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. But Dunkirk responded with two rushing touchdowns converting on both two-point conversions to take a 16-14 lead at the end of the quarter.
Both teams traded touchdowns and it was a four point game until the fourth quarter when Dunkirk made it a 40-28 game. Cheektowaga added a one-yard touchdown run but the Marauders came right back to score with 51 seconds left to make it 46-35.
Offensively, Dunkirk got it done entirely on the ground and finished without a single passing yard. The Marauders rushed for 421 yards and six touchdowns. Alton Ingram led the way rushing for 224 yards and three touchdowns.
Dunkirk will now face Batavia in the Far West Regionals.
